Insurance Effects of Driver’s License Suspension
When it comes to driver’s license suspension, you can expect that your car insurance rates to increase. It is crucial to be able to prove that you have a car insurance prior to the lifting of the suspension. There are several things that affect a person’s car insurance rates such as car accidents, being convicted of a DUI (driving under the influence) or DWI (driving while intoxicated) or getting pulled for over speeding. There are also many things that may cause the suspension of a driver’s license, such as car misuse, involvement in hit-and-run accident or any accident that the driver is proven at fault and repeated disregard of DUI or DWI rules.
Suspension of driver’s license may just seem totally fine and superficial, merely not driving while waiting for the suspension to be lifted, but when you eventually experience it yourself, you’ll realize how much not being able to do very much affects your life. Well there are many obvious reasons such as not being to drive for work, drive children to school, and not being able to visit your friends and family anytime you want to, without the stress and hassle of commuting. And there are also less obvious situations that not many people realize such as restrictions in running errands, going to the grocery store, going shopping, participating in religious services, and assisting people in their lives in terms of emergency cases, like having to bring someone to the hospital or your pet to his veterinarian. Moreso, you may become a source of burden to your family and friends, as they are responsible for driving you around because thy have no choice. Public transportation might be an option for you, but if you live in a small town or a place without a significant enough transportation system, you will really need to rely on your family and friends for driving you around. Now, if you try to ignore the suspension and still drive, you are just putting yourself at great risk. If a person is caught still driving while his driver’s license is on suspension, he may likely have a lengthened suspension, lose his license permanently, or worse go to jail.
Reinstating the suspension of your license doesn’t end your stress because your ordeal is just starting. After the reinstatement, once you consult your car insurance company for some time, you may notice a significant increase in your car insurance rates, and it may be difficult for you finding a lower insurance rate with another provider. On your driving history, it will show the suspension of your driver’s license, and it will affect your insurance rate for years.
